Double penetration

Double penetration or just DP is an English term that literally means “double penetration”, Italians call it “doppia penetrazione”. In modern culture, it refers to a particular sexual scenario or a sex practice and is also used as the name of a porn category. In simple terms, it describes a situation involving two simultaneous forms of sexual penetration. As the internet tends to do complicated things, it gave the concept a short name - DP.

Who Usually Takes Part?

The most recognizable version involves three adult participants (mostly two 🍌 and one peach). Why Are People Interested in Watching DP?

There can be several reasons.

Novelty

The human brain likes unusual things. When a familiar scenario becomes predictable, something unconventional naturally attracts more curiosity.

Fantasies about multiple partners

For some people, the idea of sexual interaction involving several adults is itself appealing. At the same time, fantasizing about something and actually wanting to try it are two completely different things.

Visual unusualness

The Taboo factor

Some people are particularly interested in subjects that feel unusual or fall outside conventional ideas about sex. This creates a small psychological paradox: “I would never do that” and “I’m curious to watch it” can perfectly coexist in the same person’s head.

Do Men and Women Like It?

Both can be interested in it. However, it is important not to confuse interest in watching with an actual sexual preference. You can think of it as three different levels:

These do not necessarily lead to one another. Someone can be perfectly comfortable staying at the first level without wanting to move to the second or third.

Is DP a Taboo?

For some people, yes. The reason is fairly simple: the practice is considered unconventional and falls outside traditional ideas about sex between two partners. For others, DP is simply another category on an adult website. After seeing approximately everything the internet can possibly put on a screen, three letters may not seem particularly shocking anymore.

Can You Trust Porn?

This is where a healthy dose of skepticism comes in. Porn is entertainment, not a sex manual. A camera doesn't show things like: preparation, breaks, multiple takes, editing, scene changes, discussions about boundaries, technical aspects of shooting. So trying to reproduce everything you see on screen exactly as shown is a little like watching an action movie and deciding that after falling off a roof, you just need to dust off your jacket. In real life, the practice can involve physical risks. These may include pain, tissue injuries, bleeding, and transmission of infections. Did Anything Similar Exist in Ancient Times?

This is where things get interesting. Humans didn't invent sexual fantasies together with the internet. Erotic art has existed for thousands of years.

Ancient Greece

Greek art contains numerous erotic images. Some works depict sexual scenes involving several people. However, calling them “ancient Greek DP” would be a rather bold historical interpretation. A Greek might have been familiar with the general idea of sexual scenes involving multiple people, but the term Double Penetration, of course, did not exist. Imagine an ancient Athenian philosopher:

— Is it a school of philosophy?

— No.

— A military strategy?

— Not that either.

— Then explain it.

And that's where the conversation would suddenly become considerably more complicated.

Ancient Rome

The Romans left behind even more erotic material. The most famous examples come from Pompeii and Herculaneum: frescoes, household objects, and depictions of sexual scenes. Some compositions include several people, although historians are still cautious about applying modern labels to ancient artwork.

India

India also has a much older erotic tradition than the modern adult-entertainment industry. The Kama Sutra is associated with a huge number of modern myths. In reality, it is a much more complex text than simply a “catalog of sex positions”.  The temple sculptures of Khajuraho also depict a wide variety of erotic scenes, including compositions involving several figures.

The Middle Ages

Medieval Europe was more conservative, but erotic and sexual imagery did not disappear completely. It appeared in: satirical manuscripts, marginalia, humorous literature, depictions of human vices. Some of these images were intended less to be erotic and more to provide humor, satire, or commentary on human behavior.

The Renaissance and Erotic Engravings

The spread of the printing press changed things considerably. Erotic images became easier to produce and distribute, and a commercial market for erotic engravings developed. Then something happened that humanity is particularly good at: a new technology quickly created a new way of looking at sex. First there were drawings, then engravings, then photographs, then film, then VHS, then the internet and finally the search bar.

Can DP Happen Without Partners?

Online, the term solo DP is sometimes used for solo scenarios involving multiple sex toys, huge bananas, other fruits, etc. This is a broader use of the term. In its classic sense, DP generally refers to two sources of sexual stimulation and often involves multiple participants. So DP does not necessarily mean a strictly defined number of people. So, you can use just  few 🍌 and it would be double penetration.
